About Running Club North

MISSION

Road Runners Club of AmericaRunning Club North (RCN) holds a Certificate of Incorporation (Alaska Entity No. 10090489), and is located in Fairbanks, Alaska. Our organization is dedicated to the promotion of running and running-related activities in Interior Alaska. Anyone can join the club without regard to race, creed, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, physical condition, or age. Non-profit status is maintained through affiliate membership of Road Runner Club of America (RRCA). RCN is supported by many dedicated individuals and families, all of whom contribute to the successful operation of the club. Because of this support, there is an RCN event almost every week of the year. Running Club North is a member with Road Runners Club of America, linking the Interior of Alaska with the rest of the nation. EVENTS

Our annual Interior Alaska Event Calendar includes numerous events ranging from snowshoe races and triathlons (including x-country skiing, swimming, and canoeing, as well as running and biking) to wilderness trail runs. Races range from beginning running to the most difficult, but rewarding events. RCN has many single races and several series races, including the Usibelli Running Series and the Northern Trails Running Series. Race distances vary from 1 mile to the 26.2 mile very hilly Equinox Marathon with many distances in between. Series information can be viewed by accessing the links on the main menu.

A Statewide calendar meeting is held in Anchorage in November/December. Events throughout the state that have been confirmed by that time will appear in the Alaska Runners Calendar. This is an event schedule booklet as a PDF, which is produced by and is available from Anchorage Sports & Recreation (P.O. Box 196650, Anchorage, Alaska, 99519). Check here for the most current on-line version of the Alaska Statewide Running Calendar.

NEW RUNNERS

Perhaps you’ve never run before and are considering taking it up for the first time. Maybe you’ve just started running and need some help developing a training schedule. Or it might be that you’re new to the area and would like some advice on how and where to run, what to avoid, or how to connect with other runners. For all this, and more, Running Club North can help. New runners can contact the membership coordinator listed on the right with any and all questions. If you want to be among the first to know all about Running Club North’s latest news and race updates, then subscribe to our list-serve.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Board of Director members serve one-year terms and are elected at our annual membership meeting held on the second Thursday in October each year. Also at this meeting, our local event calendar for the next year is assembled. If you are interested in serving on the Board, contact any Board member or email running@runningclubnorth.org. Or if you are interested in serving as Archivist, web support, or in one of the many other positions, please contact us.

RCN ARCHIVE

We also have an Archivist who maintains the club scrapbooks! These books are a comprehensive record of all RCN news published in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner since the mid-1990s, plus bits and pieces of earlier information and other submissions to the club, such as miscellaneous photos. Arrangements may be made for perusal during business hours at the Archivist location. Contributions of running club historical information are always welcome! For more information, contact running@runningclubnorth.org.
