4th Run and Soak8 Mile Road and 8.5 Mile Trail Runs |
In a whirl of flailing elbows, Bill Gardner, Brian Shaffer, and Ken Zaklukiewicz tied for first place in the Chena Hot Springs Run and Soak trail run in 1:18:55 on Saturday. Julianne Southwell, the first woman, finished by herself in 1:28:28 with Haily Wappet taking second in 1:39:39 on the approximately 8.5 mile mountain run.
Dave Frey and Ann Marie Thompson were the winners in the road course between Angel Rocks Trailhead and Chena Hot Springs Resort, Frey clocking in at 53:34 while adding a tour of the resort parking lots and Thompson finishing in 1:09:47 on the nearly 8-mile course.
On the scenic and treacherous mountain trail, Jim Decur, last year's winner, took second to the winning trio in a time of 1:20:07.
The first and only wheelchair entrant in the four-year history of the event, Larry Coutermarsh, finished in 54:59, taking the low road to the resort, where he and the runners then enjoyed a soak in the hot springs and a barbecue.
