Here are the results of the Masochism on Moose Mountain Race - the first race in the new Northern Trails
Running Series. 42 runners finished the inaugural race held on the Moose Mountain ski trails. The 4.1 mile
race gained over 1,300 feet of elevation in 1.3 miles, then descended the same elevation in 2.8 miles. 32
year-old Chris Garber-Slaught let the leaders pull away from him at the start but his racing experience
allowed him to pass everyone on the steep uphill climb. However, he really pulled away from the field on the
downhill portion of the race to win in 35:35. The next 5 men finished within 42 seconds of each other with
Josh Lothspeich finishing 2nd and Drew Harrington in 3rd. Heather Best lead the women to win the race in
40:19, followed closely by Kristen Bartecchi Rozell in 40:53 and Molly Yazwinski in 43:33.

Many runners described the course as much better marked than the Tour de Murphy Dome, however several
runners managed to make a wrong turn 1/2 mile from the finish line, but when they ended up in a Moose
Mountain resident's yard then quickly retraced their steps and took the correct trail. 15 year-old Zach
Keskinen immediately upon finishing described the course as "really pretty". At the summit of Moose
Mountain runners were welcomed by a commanding 360 degree view of the entire Tanana Valley. Fortunately
no participants saw the black bear that has been seen in the Moose Mountain area during the past 2 weeks.
