Race Directors' Comments

Forty-eight runners, the most ever, participated in the 23d running of the It ain't easy run. It was the most beautiful race day weather in anyone's memory. Since the traditional trail has been blocked by a right-of-way dispute, the race now descends into the Goldstream Valley, making a difficult route a little more so. This year the 800 foot ascent out of Goldstream to the top of Wigwam Hill followed a neat trail that the landowners have recognized and appropriately signed. Two runners used the time to scout new trail possibilities, one runner hurt her ankle and one remained to assist. Their fortitude is noted in the "special category, 7 to 9 miles." This year was remarkable in another way, none of the finishers admitted to getting lost. One runner followed the traditional wrong turn on Grenac Road for a short distance and later said the arrows painted on the pavement were not visible because he is color blind. The two runners that followed him said they were just trying to help the handicapped.
