100th Anniversary of Felix Pedro's gold discovery

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Felix Pedro's discovery of gold, the Gold Discovery Run course was completely redesigned this year. Instead of following the paved Steese Highway, from the Felix Pedro Gold Discovery Monument into downtown Fairbanks, the new course utilizes trails and backroads, lying along the ridges above the creek where Felix Pedro made his 1902 discovery. The completely new 16.5-mile course starts at the Fort Knox mine haul road and follows rolling to steep trails thru the forests for 7-1/2 miles. After intersecting Gilmore Trail the course follows Gilmore and then Gold Mine Trail, to it's intersection with the Steese Highway, near mile 14.5. The last 2 miles follow the Steese and Old Steese Highways to the Silver Gulch Brewery in Fox..
