The Land of the Midnight Sun is transformed into the Land of the Midday Sun when the seasons change. However, as we approach our shortest day, the sun did not even make a brief token appearance in honor of our Midday Sun Fun Run, George Bloom's Memorial race. With weather much warmer than last year, there was a surprisingly small field for this year's run. A northwesterly breeze at the start turned out to be not as much of a problem as the runners thought, and the course was in good running condition. In a close finish, Mike Kramer beat Ken Zaklukeiwicz across the line by one second, with a winning time of 41:15; Michelle Mitchell was 4th overall and the first woman at 44:56.
