5th Annual Cache Creek Warm-Up - 11/3/12

6.8 miles, out & back on Cache Creek Road
16 degrees, overcast and blustery (cold wind gusts!)

A record turnout of 27 runners came out to Murphy Dome for the
5th annual Cache Creek Warm-Up, a 6.8-mile footrace on hilly
Cache Creek Road. Patrik Sartz, 27, a former Nanook rifle
standout, won the race in 48:59. Right behind him was the
women's winner, 17-year-old Brooke Lizotte, a Lathrop High
School junior who had an outstanding cross-country season this
fall. Her time of 49:20 set a women's course record, eclipsing
 Lisa Beattie's 2009 time of 54:01.(Stian Stensland's 42:11 from
2009, the only year with no snow, remains the men's course
record.) Lizotte's coach, Kevin Brinegar, took second among
among men and third overall in 49:27, followed by Bruce
Sackinger in 51:09. In second and third place for women were
Dorli McWayne in 59:20 and Anna Merrill in 1:02:35.
The temperature was pleasant at 16 degrees when the blustery
winds weren't blowing. The road surface was hard-packed snow
topped with a quarter-inch of new snow, allowing for reasonably
 good traction for the runners.
